ILPS condemns brutal murders of Blacks by US authorities

, , , ,

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), in a statement by its chairman Len Cooper, expressed solidarity with the people of the United States and millions of sympathizers worldwide in condemning the latest murders of black people at the hands of the U.S. police forces. The statement, updated on 4 June and circulated in other online sites and via email, emphasized that the same imperialist state that wields the weapons of criminal violence against its own citizens also uses the same weapons—directly or indirectly—against many peoples of the world.

ILPS chapters and affiliated organizations in the U.S. and other global regions, and some of its commissions as well, have also issued their own statements condemning the police crimes and supporting the struggle of the toiling masses especially the blacks and other people of color or migrant roots in the U.S. The full text of the central ILPS statement is as follows.

CONDEMN THE LATEST MURDERS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS BY THE U.S. AUTHORITIES!

(Updated as of 04 June 2020)

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) in solidarity with the People of the United States and millions of people around the world, condemns the vicious, brutal murder of George Floyd by Police in Minneapolis.

The ILPS expresses its deepest sympathies with the family and friends of George Floyd. We share the deeply felt anger and grief felt by many.

George Floyd’s murder by choking follows a seemingly endless list of recent police killings of Black people, including Breonna Taylor, shot at least 8 times in her own apartment, and Ahmaud Arbery, executed on camera by a former police officer and his son, acting as a modern day lynching party.

The U.S. authorities have a history of targeting Black, Indigenous, Migrant, and Poor working class communities by militarised policing and other activities, demonstrating that the State in the U.S. believes that a united front of these communities for a better life and a better system than capitalism, represents a real threat to their existing power and wealth.

There is a deep distrust of the U.S. Authorities who have a history of covering up the crimes of their state against the people, and especially their anti-Black racism, and the ILPS shares that distrust because it is based on concrete experience which goes back centuries to the very foundation of the modern U.S. state.

The American People are showing their anger and tremendous courage demonstrating in growing numbers in city after city and that are now spreading around the globe. The ILPS supports those demonstrations as vital in fighting for the democratic and human rights of the people.

As well as a history of criminal violence against its own citizens and others who reside in the U.S., Imperialist America daily carries out violence in various forms, either directly, or through its client governments and agents, against many peoples of the world, in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Lethal military equipment, including assault rifles, bayonets, grenade launchers and armoured vehicles intended to kill people in other countries and territories, is being distributed to local U.S. police forces.

The U.S. Imperialist state oppresses the people of the U.S. to ensure that the capitalists state, the state of the wealthy minority, is protected from real change, and it does the same to the oppressed people of the world to protect U.S investments, to protect U.S, territorial control of the world and to try to prevent the people in those places from mobilising for democracy, independence and liberation.

The current pandemic and economic crisis is demonstrating even more clearly, that capitalism is well past its “expiry” date.

The working people of the U.S., Blacks, Chicanos and peoples of all origins will unite to change the system in the U.S., in solidarity with the other oppressed peoples of the world, to a system which is controlled by the working people and other toilers to eventually prevent the mayhem, murder, oppression, aggression and destruction, which are today characteristic of the global capitalist system dominated by the wealthy minority.

ILPS raises its collective fist and says:

Long live the courageous struggles of the African American people!
Long live international solidarity and the world-wide resistance to Imperialism!

Signed:

Len Cooper
Chairperson
International League of Peoples’ Struggle
