AMSTERDAM, 24 September—Senior and veteran revolutionaries, socialist advocates and progressive political leaders, many of them with white or thinning hair, raised their clenched fists once more—this time with young social and cultural activists and trade unionists. Young and old together marked the October Revolution of 1917 with a People’s Conference that affirmed its relevance to the continuing struggle for revolutionary change in the 21st century. Read more

In his book What Is to Be Done?, Lenin discussed the role of a nationwide newspaper not only as a collective propagandist but also a collective organizer, especially in the Russia of 1902 when there was no real and consolidated party as yet, and no solid links with the masses and sustained leadership of a broad mass movement. This article seeks to share an overview of Pravda (Truth) as a Bolshevik mass newspaper that eventually played that role and contributed to the victory of the 1917 October Socialist Revolution.
The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) held its conference on October 22 entitled “Right to Resist, Right to Exist: Unite to Fight Police Terror, State Repression, and Racism.” The decades-long cumulative results of neoliberalism and the crisis of monopoly capitalism provides a sweeping background of the current spate of state repression and police brutality in the US, and the basis for a broad united front vs. US imperialism. Prof. Jose Maria Sison, Chairperson of the ILPS’ International Coordinating Committee, sent this message of solidarity to the conference. Read more
“The recent ruling of the Philippine Supreme Court, which upheld with finality the constitutionality of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), [is] a stark reminder that the Philippines remains a staunch bulwark of US imperialist hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region, and that reactionary pro-US forces remain in control of the main levers of the Philippine state.”

“The stunning 52-48 vote in favor of Brexit … is mainly based on the widespread nationwide sentiment that the stagnation, unemployment and austerity measures have been generated by the EU’s persistent push for neoliberal policies and its overprivileged bureaucracy. In a sense, the Brexit is a spontaneous rebellion against the EU and its main UK partners.”

International League of Peoples’ Struggle, May 1, 2016
We, the International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS), raise our clenched fists to salute the workers and peoples of the world celebrating 130 years of International Workers’ Day.
On this day, we recall and celebrate the victories of the labor movement in fighting for the eight-hour workday, higher wages, better working conditions and social transformation. We pay tribute to the pioneers and martyrs of the labor movement and we draw inspiration from their commitment, courage, and perseverance as we seek to boldly expand and strengthen the working-class movement and heighten its revolutionary consciousness and militancy. UTRECHT, The Netherlands—“Revolutionary forces should have a very positive attitude about the Internet as a powerful vehicle for mobilizing the masses,” Jose Ma. Sison said in a talk before fellow activists at a symposium on anti-imperialist organizing and propaganda held here on February 17.
Sison, chairperson of the International League of People’s Struggle (ILPS) and founding chairman of the Communist Party of the Philippines, compared today’s Internet with the railways a century ago. “The capitalists built and operated the railways to earn huge profits and to open up new frontiers for their businesses, that’s a given,” he noted.
But capitalists could not prevent determined revolutionaries, like Lenin’s Bolsheviks, from using the same railways “to transport the underground newspaper Iskra so it could reach thousands of workers.” Today’s revolutionaries should also maximize the Internet in the same way to mobilize the masses, Sison said. “There are always ways to go around restrictions,” he added.
